Accommodation Officer

Futures Recruitment Services are pleased to be assisting our client, based in Littlehampton, who is currently seeking to hire a temporary Accommodation Officer. Working in a fast paced, open-plan office, you will be tasked with helping to manage all temporary accommodation and promote the prevention of homelessness.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience handling a variety of roles within accommodation and property management settings such as carrying out regular inspections and home visits, monitoring accounts, providing tenancy support, as well as liaising with household members, the public and fellow employees.

Additional Information:

  • Temporary contract, approximately 3 months

  • Monday to Friday

  • Salary is negotiable based on experience

Main Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Purpose of the role- to manage all temporary accommodation and promote the prevention of homelessness; provide tenancy support to clients in temporary or emergency accommodation; provide peripatetic support to the housing services team as required.

  • Carry out regular inspections of temporary accommodation units- where necessary, take appropriate action to resolve repair/ other issues in relation to individual units and communal areas.

  • Maintain accurate and appropriate records of all interviews, casework and weekly performance information.

  • Monitor temporary accommodation rent account and advise clients of any charges or changes to payment plans.

  • Liaise with medical professionals, social services, other local authorities and departments, as well as statutory and voluntary sector agencies in relation to customers living in temporary accommodation.

  • Coordinate and attend meetings with the above groups, making referrals where appropriate.

  • Take appropriate legal action to terminate licences and tenancies of temporary accommodation, serving Notices as required, under the direction of the Senior Officer (to whom you will report).

  • Provide general administrative, clerical, and telephone support to the overall Housing Services Team.

Skills Required:

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written

  • The ability to work towards strict deadlines and meet targets

  • Possess a strong work ethic and be able to work both as part of a team, as well as independently

  • Conflict management skills

  • Outstanding organisational skills

  • Established and developed understanding of relevant housing legislation and other relevant legislation, codes of guidance and Council policies
